Bosch: Legacy Season 3 – The Finale and What’s Next

It’s been a bit of a binge lately, and while I didn’t get a chance to write about Bosch: Legacy yesterday, I’ve now wrapped up Season 3 with episodes 8, 9, and 10. And what a season it’s been. I’ll start with some personal thoughts and analysis before I dive into what’s next in the series.

For those of you who’ve been following along with Bosch: Legacy, the series continues to follow Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) after his retirement from the LAPD. Now working as a private investigator, Bosch’s gritty world of justice and moral complexity continues to explore the theme of how personal and professional lives intertwine. The season finale had a lot riding on it, especially with Maddie Bosch (his daughter) proving herself in the field while still wrestling with her own ambitions and shortcomings.

🎬 Season 3: Slow-Burn With a Powerful Conclusion

In Season 3, the tension really builds. Episodes 8 to 10 showcase Bosch’s struggle with coming to terms with his own past and the heavy weight of making difficult choices. I won’t go into spoilers, but suffice it to say that the finale delivers a fitting resolution for the character arcs without overstaying its welcome. The pacing was slow but deliberate, allowing for more personal development rather than simply hitting the beats of an action-packed finale. This is one of the aspects I’ve always appreciated about Bosch: It’s never rushed.

The show has excelled at balancing Bosch’s personal life with his investigation cases. His complex relationship with his daughter Maddie continues to develop, offering us moments of tenderness mixed with tense confrontations. Bosch is a flawed hero, and that’s what makes him so compelling.

In these final episodes, Bosch comes face-to-face with some of the consequences of his past choices, forcing him to reckon with his own sense of morality. And, of course, we see him trying to maintain that ever-important moral compass, even when faced with difficult and often heartbreaking choices. His journey is all about redemption, and this season hints at potential new directions for the character.

Maddie, on the other hand, is growing into a capable investigator herself, making decisions that sometimes mirror her father’s but are often even bolder. It’s clear that she’s carving out her own path, and Season 3 does an excellent job of balancing the father-daughter dynamic.

🔍 What’s Next for Bosch?

While Bosch: Legacy may have been cancelled after Season 3, the franchise isn’t done yet. There’s a spin-off series called Ballard set to drop this summer, which will feature some of the characters from Bosch: Legacy, including Bosch himself in at least one episode. This new series will focus on Detective Ballard (played by Mimi Rogers), and it’s exciting to know that we’ll still get to revisit the Bosch universe. It may not be Bosch: Legacy, but it’s a chance to continue exploring this world and seeing how Bosch’s journey evolves alongside new characters.

Where to Watch Bosch: Legacy:

The Equalizer (2021) – The New Reboot with Queen Latifah

I had the opportunity to dive into The Equalizer (2021) reboot, which stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative turned vigilante. The first three episodes had me hooked right from the start, and I have a lot to say about this reboot—especially after watching episodes 1 to 3.

The Equalizer (2021) is an update of the classic 1980s series, which was later made into a film franchise starring Denzel Washington. But in this version, Robyn McCall isn’t just the same old vigilante—she’s a mother, a woman with a past she can’t easily outrun, and someone who’s hell-bent on delivering justice to those who need it most. And Queen Latifah is an inspired choice to lead the show.

📺 Episode 1: The Equalizer

The pilot kicks off with Robyn McCall getting tangled up in a case that hits close to home. She uses her incredible skills, both physical and mental, to take down a criminal network that is exploiting the vulnerable. Her connection to the case is personal, as it involves a young girl being threatened by people in powerful positions. McCall is not just a protector of the weak, but also a symbol of justice when the system fails.

What sets The Equalizer apart from other crime procedural shows is its emphasis on Robyn’s personal motivations and her deep connection to the people she helps. She’s not just a generic “badass”—she’s a character with layers. The action is great, but it’s the emotional beats that give the show a unique flair.

🔹 Episode 2: Glory

This episode takes on a more topical issue, focusing on the dangers of online abuse and doxxing. A young woman’s life is turned upside down when her private information is leaked to the world, putting her and her family in danger. As Robyn investigates, we see the show’s ability to blend action with real-world issues in a way that’s engaging and, at times, poignant.

The storytelling in Episode 2 could be accused of veering into “TV drama PSA” territory at times, but it works well. The social justice themes are central, and while the show doesn’t shy away from discussing these heavier topics, it does so in a way that feels organic to the character of Robyn McCall. She’s a figure who actively works within the system but isn’t afraid to bend the rules when necessary.

🔹 Episode 3: Judgment Day

This episode ramped up the tension. Robyn gets involved with a case that forces her to take on a dangerous adversary while juggling the complexities of raising her teenage daughter. It’s clear that Robyn’s character is multi-dimensional—she’s a mom, a fighter, and a woman haunted by a troubled past. The case she takes on in this episode is high-stakes, and the pacing is fast, giving viewers an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride.

The show succeeds in showing us how Robyn is not only fighting for justice but also trying to reconcile her two worlds: her past as a CIA operative and her present as a mother who wants to protect her family above all else.

🔍 Why You Should Watch

If you’re a fan of action-packed shows that don’t rely purely on explosions and fight sequences, The Equalizer is a solid pick. While the show has its moments of high-octane action, it also invests time in building Robyn’s personal life and her complex motivations. Queen Latifah brings gravitas to the role, making Robyn someone you want to root for. Plus, the show balances its procedural elements with social justice themes, making it relevant in today’s world.

If you enjoyed shows like Person of Interest or Reacher, you might find The Equalizer a welcome addition to your watchlist. The writing is strong, the performances are compelling, and the action is solid. What’s more, the addition of a female lead gives it a fresh perspective on the vigilante genre.

Where to Watch The Equalizer

What’s Coming Up Next

With Bosch: Legacy Season 3 now behind me, I’m curious to see how the show will evolve. Bosch’s world feels like it has room to grow, especially with Maddie taking on more responsibility. As for The Equalizer, I’m intrigued to see how it develops Robyn’s backstory and what cases she takes on next.

It’s an exciting time to be watching TV, with both these shows offering unique takes on crime and justice, albeit in very different ways. I’ll be keeping up with both, and I’m sure I’ll have more to say as I continue watching.
